Transform and Train: Your Quick Guide to Starting a Fitness Journey

starting a fitness journey

Did you know that the most difficult part of any transformation is making the decision to start? Well…making the decision is sometimes easy, but taking that first step can be the hardest part of all. It’s common to feel so overwhelmed when we’re not even sure what that first step looks like or how to begin that forward motion that we often fall into the analysis-paralysis trap and don’t begin at all.

So this post, my friends, is for you. You’ve decided you want to start your transformation, but how do you actually get started? Keep reading because I’m making the process super simple and super enjoyable, so you have no other option but to succeed.

One of the biggest ways to set yourself up for failure is to make the process too difficult. When we set a goal, we sometimes focus on all the things we think we have to do or won’t be allowed to do it feels like too much, too fast, and we end up throwing in the towel before we even break a sweat.

KISS: Keep It Simple Sexy

Instead, focus on K.I.S.S.: Keep it simple, sexy. Think of an easy thing you can do today that will get you one step closer to reaching your goal, and go do that thing. Don’t worry about tomorrow. Just focus on doing that one teeny, tiny, super simple thing today. And then when you wake up in the morning, do it again. Breaking down your bigger goals into smaller goals and simple action items will make your mini-goals easier to achieve and keep you motivated.

Begin Your Fitness Journey with Home Workouts

The truth is that you have to make time for what’s important to you, and this means making time for working out. But I’ll be the first to admit that I totally get what a chaotic work and family schedule is like. Especially when your kiddos hit the age where you transition into a full-time chauffeur. So start by keeping this step simple too: Work out at home.

The biggest reason I love at-home workouts? It’s easier when you don’t have a ton of time, and there are plenty of great no-equipment-needed workouts (or minimal equipment-needed workouts) that are perfect for doing at home.

Staying Accountable: The Key to Fitness Success

Accountability is one of the biggest things we can take charge of in life, no matter the situation. Being accountable to your goals, your transformation, and yourself is huge., so find ways you can stay accountable. Maybe it means joining a community and actively participating each week. Or maybe it means posting about your workouts or progress on social media. Or maybe it means finding someone you can check in with weekly to make sure you’re keeping your promises that you made to yourself. I love checking in with the girlies inside the 45 Day Hard, as we keep each other accountability daily showing up with our non-negotiable 6.

Whatever method you find that works, stick with it. Staying accountable will help increase not only consistency (and believe me, guys, consistency is key), but it also helps keep you motivated. Which means you’re more likely to stick to the process which will help you see progress as you continue toward that finish line.

Celebrating Your Victories: Small Wins, Big Impact

celebrate fitness success

Learn to celebrate the wins, both big and small. Even celebrating the fact that you’re taking this first step is a victory deserving of attention. Just keep in mind that celebration doesn’t necessarily mean treating yourself. Celebrate by how you speak to yourself—the positive affirmations you use to encourage yourself, congratulate yourself, and carry yourself each day you’re in this race.

Focus on setting small goals, crush the heck out of them, and then remind yourself that you ARE a winner, a champion, and capable of anything. It will keep you motivated to continue taking those steps and help you stay excited about the process.

Embracing Self-Compassion

Accepting failure was one of the most pivotal moments in my life. And guys, failure is part of the process. But instead of looking at failure as something negative, we have to learn to embrace it. Go into this transformation journey knowing that you’re not going to be perfect from the get-go. You will mess up and make mistakes throughout your journey.

We all do, and that’s totally okay. Learn to forgive yourself and move on because none of us get it right 100% of the time. We slip up, we forget, and sometimes we don’t even realize our mistakes until after they’re said and done. That’s okay. Just keep going. Don’t give into the misbelief that a slip-up is a set-back. Instead, it’s an opportunity to learn and do better next time.

Okay, babe The moment is here. It’s time to hold your head up high and confidently take that first or next step to crushing your goals and making your dreams a reality! Who’s with me?!

Let's bring on 2024 with a BANG!
